Sharks post solid swims at Bridgeport meet

Posted

BRIDGEPORT – The Torrington Sharks swim team returned from the June 22 meet in Bridgeport with 58 top-three medals and plenty of new PRs in individual events and relays. The Sharks’ haul from Bridgeport included 19 first-place finishes and seven meet records.

“We had another great meet this weekend with lots of broken records and even more personal bests,” coach Baxter Greenwald said. “Lexi Wilkie (11-12-year-old) has now broken the backstroke record at each meet this summer. Marshall Patrick broke the meet record in the (under eight) 200-freestyle by more than three minutes. We look forward to one more week of the regular season before the medal meet in Torrington on July 6.”

New meet records

Marshall Patrick set four new meet records in the boys under-eight (8U) division. Patrick opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 50-meter freestyle, clocking in with a record-breaking time of 53.39 seconds. The previous record, set in 2021, stood at 55.45 seconds.

In the 100-freestyle, Patrick crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 1 minute, 58.37 seconds. He shaved more than 24 seconds off the eight-year-old record of 2:22.66.

Patrick went on to set a meet record and garner gold in the 100-meter individual medley (IM), posting a time of 2:23.68 and beating the 2016 record of 2:36.09.

Clocking the 200-freestyle in at 4:01.35, Patrick snagged gold in the event and shattered the 2021 record of 7:57.84.

Stull broke the meet record in the 50-freestyle, reaching the finish line in first place at 29.94 seconds. The former record (2016) stood at 29.85 seconds.

Stull also picked up gold in the 50-backstroke, clocking in at 35.77 seconds.
