Tigers ‘C’ 2-2 at Laramie Tourney

LARAMIE – The Torrington Tigers ‘C’ Legion team boarded the bus for an action-packed weekend consisting of four games at the Laramie ‘C’ Tournament from June 28-30.

Torrington came up short, 13-2, against the Greeley Grays in the first game on Friday.

Digging deep, the Tigers rallied to defeat the Wheatland Lobos, 7-6, in a game that came down to the wire on Friday evening.

The third game pitted Torrington against the Prime Prospectors from Johnstown, Colorado. A six-run fourth inning by the Tigers allowed Torrington to overtake an early lead by the Prospectors to post an 8-7 victory.

In the final game, the Tigers came up short, 7-5, in a close matchup against the Green River Knights on Sunday.

Wheatland

Four runs by the Tigers in the bottom of the second inning tipped the scoreboard in Torrington’s favor, 4-1. Easton Desmond singled for two RBI while Marek Nunnes doubled for one run and Skylen Teague hit a single for one RBI.

The Lobos responded with three runs in the top of the third inning to tie the game, 4-4.

Undaunted, Torrington recaptured the lead, 7-4, with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Colby Groene doubled for two RBI and Noah Ibarra singled for one run.

The Tigers’ fielders held Wheatland to only two runs in the top of the sixth and Torrington secured the win.

The Tigers totaled 12 hits against the Lobos. Groene set the pace for Torrington with four hits for two RBI. Nunnes tallied two hits with one apiece by Desmond, Ibarra, Teague, Taven Reimers, Jaxon Schimic and Paxtyn Rude. 

Reimers opened as pitcher for the Tigers, striking out five. Rude played relief and struck out three.

Johnstown Prospectors

The first inning between the Tigers and the Prospectors ended in a 1-1 stalemate. The Prospectors took the initiative, 5-2, with one run in the top of the second inning and three in the third.

Refusing to yield, the Tigers responded with six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Asher Mattis, James Stienmetz and Kane Correa each singled with Stienmetz collecting two RBI.

Torrington’s fielders held the Prospectors to two runs in the top of the fifth inning, allowing the Tigers to secure the win.

Overall, Torrington posted five hits against the Prospectors. Stienmetz led the Tigers offense with two hits for three RBI. Mattis contributed two hits to the tally with one by Correa.

On the mound, Stienmetz started as pitcher for Torrington, striking out two. Nunnes played relief, striking out four.
