Senior women’s golf club competes in Torrington

TORRINGTON – Forty-six golfers gathered at the Cottonwood Country Club in Torrington on July 8 for a morning tournament sponsored by the Panhandle Senior Women’s Golf Association (PSWGA).

The PSWGA organizes a series of events at golf courses throughout the region at a different location every other Monday, said PSWGA vice president Terry Espinoza. The club’s membership spans from Guernsey, Wyoming, to Sidney, Nebraska and includes nearly every community in between, Espinoza added.

Espinoza became involved in the PSWGA 15 years ago and the organization now counts more than 60 golfers ranging in age from 50 to late 80s.

New members at least 50 years young are welcome to join, Espinoza said. Golf experience is not necessarily required and the PSWGA can offer lessons.

PSWGA president Lisa Racine thanked the Cottonwood Country Club and its managers, David Dent and Vicky Barnes, for hosting the tournament.

“Today was a great time for everyone,” Racine said. “This is a wonderful group of women to golf with.”

The PSWGA season culminates with final tournament in Torrington this September.
