Lady Lancers go 2-2 at Crystal Invite

SALT LAKE CITY – The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) Lady Lancers volleyball team split a weekend on the road at the Crystal Invite hosted by Salt Lake Community College, picking up two wins and two losses during the two-day event from August 30-31.

EWC fell to Salt Lake Community College, 3-0, in the opening match. Salt Lake won the first set by a 25-19 margin before defeating EWC in the second set (25-18) and third set (25-14).

Freshman Una Stepic set the momentum offensively for the Lady Lancers against Salt Lake with six kills. Freshman Amarie Huntsman and sophomore Julia Dolan both contributed four kills.

Sophomore Emma Blackstar played setter and delivered 10 assists. Fellow sophomore Boden Liljedahl served as libero, tallying four digs. On defense, freshman Annika Cantrell posted two blocks.

The Lady Lancers turned the tables in the second match, defeating North Idaho College, 3-1.

North Idaho won the first set, 25-17. Turning the tables in a close second set, EWC scored a 25-22 victory.

The Lady Lancers went on to win the third and fourth sets, 25-20 and 25-19.

Stepic led EWC in kills with 14. Dolan tallied 10 kills while Huntsman contributed nine. Blackstar totaled 21 assists while Liljedahl recorded 27 digs.

Defensively, sophomore Siala Unufe tallied nine blocks.

Liljedahl and Unufe both aced two serves against North Idaho.

EWC fell, 3-1, in a four-set battle against Utah State Eastern on Saturday morning. Following a 25-25 deadlock in the first set, the Lady Lancers scored two decisive points for the win, 27-25.

Utah State Eastern responded with victories in the second set, 25-19, third set, 25-15, and fourth set, 25-16.

Dolan tallied 10 kills against Utah State Eastern, with Huntsman contributing eight and Unufe seven. Blackstar played setter, collecting 12 assists. As libero, Liljedahl posted 35 digs.

Unufe and freshman Hailey Duncan both aced four serves. Unufe led in blocks with seven.

Determined to end the tournament on a high note, EWC pulled out all the stops to win a five-set match against College of Southern Idaho, 3-2.

The Lady Lancers won the first set, 25-14. Southern Idaho responded to win a close second set, 26-24. Turning the tables in the third set, EWC defeated Southern Idaho, 25-17.

Southern Idaho answered back in the fourth set to win, 25-22, before EWC won the tiebreaker, 15-7.

Dolan set the pace offensively for EWC against Southern Idaho with 14 kills. Cantrell contributed 11 kills and Huntsman eight.

Liljedahl collected 34 digs as libero. Duncan aced seven serves on offense and Unufe posted seven blocks on defense.
