Local youth all-around reserve champ at NHSFR

ROCK SPRINGS – The National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs culminated with Yoder native Hadley Thompson snagging the all-around reserve championship following seven intense days of competition from July 14-20.

Thompson gave an interview with the Telegram about her nationals experience on Monday that will be printed in a separate article in an upcoming edition.

Thompson finished second overall in breakaway roping with an average of 8.25 seconds. She took first place in the short-go on Saturday with a time of 2.28 seconds.

Thompson also clinched second place overall in goat tying with an average of 22.05 seconds. In the short-go, Thompson came in second at 7.15 seconds.

Rounding out the week, Thompson placed 124th in barrel racing with an aggregate of 40.386 and also competed in team roping with partner Asa Pixley of Sundance.

Four additional rodeo cowboys and cowgirls from Goshen County and the Nebraska Panhandle (competing for Wyoming during the high school season) placed at the NHSFR. The Wyoming girls’ team took fourth overall while the boys placed 14th.

Baleigh Lane, hailing from Huntley, finished 21st in girls’ cutting with a cumulative score of 284.50. Lane went on to place 50th in reined cow horse with an average of 558.50.

Josie Waite of Morrill, Nebraska, took 33rd place overall in reined cow horse with a score of 567.50.

Mitchell’s Braxton Burford placed 47th in tie-down calf roping, averaging 29.82 seconds.

In the boys’ competition, Torrington’s Sidwell Peterson and his team roping partner, Talon Larson of Gillette, came in 70th in the event with an average of 13.93 seconds.
