16U, 14U and 10U end seasons

GILLETTE – The 2024 summer season concluded for the Torrington Thunder 16U, 14U and 10U teams at the state girls’ fast-pitch softball tournament hosted by Gillette from July 11-14.

16U

The Torrington 16U team squared off against the Casper Rebels in the opening game in Pool A on Friday. Casper clinched the win with three runs in the top of the first inning and five runs in the fifth to post a 14-1 victory.

The Thunder came up short in the second game of pool play against the Wyoming Mystix, 17-0.

Picking themselves up and regrouping in bracket play, the Thunder battled Cheyenne WYCO through five neck-and-neck innings on Saturday morning. WYCO managed to score a single decisive run in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the win, 8-7.

Torrington finished the tournament in the consolation bracket playing the Gillette Blue Jays. Torrington won the first inning, 5-3, before Gillette edged up in the third inning to win, 12-6.

14U

The Torrington 14U team found itself locked in a tight battle against the Wyoming Mystix in the first game of pool play on Friday. Torrington fought to close an early 6-0 lead by Wyoming Mystix with eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but ultimately came up short by a single heartbreaking run on the final scoreboard, 10-9.

The second game of pool play pitted Torrington against Gillette with Gillette prevailing, 12-2.

In bracket play, Torrington played a neck-and-neck game against WYCO  where the Thunder ultimately fell, 5-4.

Moving to the consolation bracket, the Thunder fell to the Gillette, 14-4.

10U

The first two games of pool play between the Thunder 10U team and its opponents came down to the wire.

Torrington took on the Lander Lady Legends in the first game where both opponents fought to an 8-8 stalemate. Lander ultimately posted the decisive run to win, 9-8.

In the second game, the 10U battled the Oil City Stars from Casper. Both teams pulled out all the stops in this high-scoring game that reached a 20-20 stalemate. Casper managed to pull ahead by one run to score the win, 21-20.

In bracket play, Torrington fell to the Cody Pride on Saturday morning, 14-2. 

The final game pitted Torrington against the Valor Valkyrie of Casper. Despite a neck-and-neck fight between the Thunder and Valor Valkyrie, Casper eventually pulled ahead for the win, 15-10.
