Tigers ‘C’ trounce Sidney

TORRINGTON – The Torrington Tigers ‘C’ Legion team successfully defended the home field against a squad from Sidney, Nebraska, in a double-header on June 22.

Hitting the ground running in the first game, the Tigers soundly defeated Sidney, 11-7. Torrington left it all on the field in the second game and the Tigers scored a blowout 12-0 victory.

Torrington hosted the Cheyenne Post No. 6 Indians on Wednesday, June 19, for a double-header. The Tigers ultimately came up short in both games, 12-2 and 13-2, respectively. 

On Monday, Torrington traveled to Cheyenne for a rematch versus the Indians. Final results were not available at press time.

Sidney

In the first game, the Tigers secured an early 4-0 lead with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Sidney responded with three runs in the top of the second inning, although the Tigers remained up, 5-3, with an additional run in the bottom of the third.

Torrington outscored Sidney, 4-3, in the third inning to seal the win for the Tigers.

The Tigers tallied eight hits against Sidney in the first game. Asher Mattis set the pace for Torrington with three runs and three RBI. James Stienmetz and Marek Nunnes each posted two hits while Colby Groene contributed one.

Kane Correa started as pitcher for the Tigers, striking out two. Ebin Hunter played relief.

The first inning of the second game resulted in a 0-0 stalemate. Pulling out all the stops in an epic second inning, Torrington tallied seven runs in the bottom of the second to control the scoreboard, 7-0.

The Tigers batted in five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to clinch the victory.

Overall, the Tigers totaled 10 hits against Sidney in the second game. Mattis, Barrett Bruch and Groene each tallied two hits with one apiece from Brody Shields, Stienmetz, Hunter and Nunnes.

Bruch opened as pitcher  while Stienmetz played relief, striking out one.
