We continue to move in the right direction as we head into the last few weeks of our season. We had some good competition this weekend which elevated our level of play and allowed us to move girls around, get some good looks defensively and play at a higher level.”

The LFL Lady Doggers board the bus for Yoder to play the cross-county rivalry game against the Lady Cyclones on Thursday, October 10 at 5 p.m.

MORRILL – The Lingle-Fort Laramie (LFL) Lady Doggers volleyball team battled through three matches against Nebraska opponents to garner second place at a tournament hosted by Morrill on Saturday, October 5.

LFL won the first match against Crawford in a 2-0 sweep. The second match featured a showdown between the Lady Doggers and the host school with LFL triumphing, 2-1.

Advancing to the championship match, LFL came up short by only a couple of points in two neck-and-neck sets against Garden County.

The Lady Doggers’ success at the Morrill tournament followed a 3-0 victory against 1A Southeast opponent Niobrara County on Thursday.

Niobrara County

The first set between the Lady Doggers and Lady Tigers proved close with LFL scoring four decisive points to win, 25-21. LFL maintained its momentum into the second and third sets to defeat Niobrara County, 25-10 and 25-12, respectively.

Senior Brenly Shipp set the pace for the Lady Doggers offense with seven kills. Junior Skyla Wunder and senior Grace Gibson each tallied five kills with three from junior Jordynn Speckner and two apiece by senior Hallie Fuller and sophomore Charlotte Speckner. 

On the service line, Shipp scored six aces, senior Kenzi Wilkins and Gibson two each and one from Jordynn Speckner.

Defensively, Shipp reached up for 11 blocks. Wunder posted six blocks, Jordynn Speckner three and Fuller two.

Fuller, Wunder and Shipp covered the floor with 14, 12 and 10 digs, respectively.

Wunder delivered 12 assists and Shipp 11.

Morrill Tournament

The Lady Doggers defeated Crawford in the opening match in two sets, 25-19 and 25-15.

Wunder, Fuller and Gibson each tallied four kills against Crawford. Wunder aced three serves while Shipp and Fuller both defended the net with three blocks.

Wilkins played libero and totaled nine digs with Shipp setting up seven assists.

Progressing to the semifinal game, LFL took on the host school in three sets that came down to the wire. The Lady Doggers clinched the win by two decisive points in the first set, 28-26.

Morrill turned the tables to win the second set, 25-18. LFL battled back to win the third set, 25-21.

Shipp led the Lady Doggers in kills against Morrill with seven. The senior also served up four aces.

On defense, Jordynn Speckner, Shipp and Fuller each posted two blocks. Sophomore Kynzi Thomas entered the game and recorded 18 digs. Shipp played setter and totaled 11 assists.

The championship match between LFL and Garden County also proved close. Garden County won the first set, 25-20. The Lady Doggers fought point-for-point in the second set, tying the match at 25. Garden City ultimately scored two points for the win, 27-25.

Jordynn Speckner set the pace for the LFL offense against Garden County with seven kills. Wunder aced five serves while Jordynn Speckner, Fuller and Charlotte Speckner each reached up for two blocks.

Wunder totaled 12 digs and 15 assists.
