I thought we played another solid game. We were challenged by some different looks that they gave us offensively and our kids responded very well. CHEYENNE – The Lingle-Fort Laramie Doggers proved they are up to the task against any opponent by beating Cheyenne East’s sizeable junior varsity squad, 49-20, at a non-conference away game on Thursday, October 3.

Three touchdowns by the Dogger offense in the first half, while a gritty LFL defense held Cheyenne East to a single touchdown, resulted in a 21-6 lead for the Doggers going into the locker rooms.

Back-to-back explosive plays by LFL early in the third quarter widened LFL’s lead, 35-0.

“I thought we played another solid game,” coach Brandon Gifford said. “We were challenged by some different looks that they gave us offensively and our kids responded very well. Four solid quarters

A string of tackles by LFL senior Louden Bremer and junior Colt Brown shut down Cheyenne’s first attempt to score in the opening quarter.

Gaining possession, Brown, Bremer and senior Kaiden Riggs relentlessly drove the ball forward. Riggs took a handoff from junior quarterback Brady Cook and swept into the end zone for touchdown No. 1.

Junior Anthony Arnusch kicked the extra point and LFL led, 7-0.

A touchback by Arnusch set Cheyenne up on the Thunderbirds’ 20-yard line. The LFL D-line hammered away at Cheyenne, including tackles by Riggs, Bremer, senior Ned Nelson and Brown and pass coverage by Arnusch.

Cheyenne East found itself going nowhere on the Thunderbirds’ first drive in the second quarter. A sack for no gain by senior Cooper Smith forced a turnover on downs.

LFL took possession and Bremer and Riggs drove the ball deep into Cheyenne territory. Bremer charged into the end zone to score the Doggers’ second touchdown. Arnusch kicked the ball between the goalposts and LFL led, 14-0.

Cheyenne fumbled on the ensuing drive, the ball recovered by Brown. 

Finding themselves once more in possession, the Doggers scored a fourth touchdown with Bremer rushing the ball into the end zone.

Arnusch made good on another kick and the scoreboard favored LFL, 21-0.

An interception by Riggs shut down Cheyenne East’s next attempt to score. 

Cheyenne managed to reach the end zone on its final drive of the first half and the score favored LFL at 21-6 at halftime.

LFL took charge immediately in the second half. Bremer raced 58 yards into the end zone on the Doggers’ first possession and then scored a pick six. Two good kicks from Arnusch widened LFL’s lead, 35-6.

LFL prevented Cheyenne from scoring on the Thunderbirds’ first drive of the second half when a sack for loss by Smith resulted in a turnover on downs.

In possession once again, Cook launched the ball to Arnusch for a 32-yard touchdown pass play. Moments later, Arnusch kicked in another extra point and LFL controlled the scoreboard, 42-6.

Cheyenne fumbled on the ensuing drive, the ball recovered by Smith.

The Thunderbirds reached the end zone early in the fourth quarter. LFL responded on the subsequent drive. Riggs broke tackle multiple times as he zigzagged across the field and into the end zone.

Arnusch completed his seventh kick and LFL led, 49-12.

The Doggers tallied 428 yards rushing against Cheyenne, led by Bremer with 192 yards on 13 carries. Riggs recorded 98 yards rushing on 11 carries.

Cook completed four of five passes for 35 yards and Arnusch posted two touchbacks.

Defensively, Brown totaled 15 tackles with nine from Smith and eight by Bremer. Smith filled out the defensive stat sheet with one tackle for loss, one sack and one fumble recovery. Nelson and Brown also contributed one tackle for loss. 

Arnusch broke up two passes and junior Brayden  Posten recovered one fumble. Riggs and Bremer both recorded an interception.
