Goshen library unveils fifth StoryWalk behind Trail Elementary

TORRINGTON – The Goshen County Library is excited to present the fifth StoryWalk installation located directly behind the Trail Elementary School. The exciting new project is meant to combine both the fun of reading along with outdoor physical activities, which makes it a fantastic addition to Goshen County. The trail is a wonderful resource location for families, educators and of course children of all ages.

The idea behind the project is to take well-known and beloved children’s books and bring them into a wonderful interactive involvement. The notion involves each page of a particular book that is placed on an individual sign along the trail, which then allows patrons to enjoy the story while walking through beautiful surroundings.

The library, along with Goshen County School District, feels this is a fantastic way to mold education, physical activity and interactive relationships into one unique concept.

The specific location of the trail is truly particular, and encourages students and parents to explore the joy of reading in a natural outdoor location. The entire concept aligns perfectly with the district’s ongoing commitment for learning, as well as developing positive, healthy practices.

The library noted the support of the Goshen County School District, District Superintendent Ryan Kramer, Lonnie Britton along with his crew, Whit Peterson, Jay Clapper, Torrington Rotary for its funding of the project, and the Goshen County Library Foundation, who heavily contributed to the StoryWalk path.

The library further noted, “It is our shared dedication to education and the betterment of our community that allows us to bring such innovative and impactful projects to life.”

The project was funded for the GCL in 2020 through various grants from the Community Pride Foundation, Wyoming Community Foundation, Wyoming Arts Council and Nan and Rod Hornbeck.

The StoryWalk Project was conceived by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont, and was developed in association with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. The trail is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
