Flowers on the farm

LINGLE – It’s getting to be the perfect time of year to visit the pumpkin patch, and Ellis Harvest Home has added something new for the year.

This summer Ellis’ Harvest Home in Lingle has been growing flowers so this last weekend, and this upcoming weekend, people can come pick their own fresh bouquet of flowers.

Admission is $5 and for $12, vases are available to carry your bouquet home in.

Also running during this time, is the Bean Bin, the Feed Bunk, and Photo Ops.

According to Dan 'The Pumpkin Man' Ellis, the Flowers on the Farm event is new to them as it is their first year. They have been planning this new addition for about a year or so. He took inspiration because he saw the idea really taking off at other patches online. The turnout on just the first day was quite impressive, it was clearly a hit.

“This is the first year for that. It’s new for us and uncharted territory a lot of the maze sites across the country are very popular now for flower days. So far, we’ve had pretty good turnout,” Ellis shared.

Ellis also shared the background on some other things at Ellis’ Harvest Home. In 2007, they began their little pumpkin patch around the yard, and everyone was suggesting a maze to be added to the property. This year the maze is 17 years old.

Every now and then, they add another thing. The corn bin has been around for some time as well as the hay maze, but things like the playset and swings are newer additions within the last few years.

“This is the 17th year of the corn maze, so in 2008. We had pumpkins and we moved over here in 2007, and we just did the pumpkin patch in the yard, just pumpkins, and people kept saying ‘you need to do a maze’ and then we finally decided, well, we’re going to have to do the maze or we may lose everything else too, so we took the plunge. And every year, something else gets added, you know, we keep, just like that little playset right there, that’s new this year. Swings last year. The farmer basketball, that was two years ago. Corn boxes. Now we set the hay maze up on the other side of the tunnel, the greenhouse, and we also have stock tanks that we put corn in, just spread out. The two jumping pillows over there,” Ellis explained when talking about all the activities available.

From there he led into sharing an upcoming event. Adult night music on the farm. On the 21st this month, they will have a band, a beer garden, and other things to eat and drink. Although it is an adult event, Ellis says they do not turn minors away, they will just have a different color wristband. On this night, those who attend will be able to go through the maze and such before the patch officially opens for the year.

Keep an eye out on the Ellis’ Harvest Homes Facebook page for updates on these, and more upcoming events. In the meantime, go get your very own bouquet!
