TORRINGTON  – More than 50 young cowgirls and cowboys gathered for the final summer competition of the Torrington Junior Rodeo on Wednesday, July 24.

The Torrington Junior Rodeo was started by the Wiedman family two years ago to provide an opportunity for youngsters between the ages of five and 14 from Goshen County and surrounding communities to learn the ropes of competitive rodeo.

The season consists of six rodeos, including the finals on Wednesday, throughout the summer. The rodeos consist of barrels, pole bending, goat tying and roping.

Many of the local cowboys and cowgirls competing at the Wyoming Junior Rodeo Association’s state rodeo in July competed in the Torrington Junior Rodeo as well, said Jessica Wiedman, event organizer.

“This is an awesome group of kids,” Wiedman added. “They all work really hard.”
