Harriers snag gold at Kimball

KIMBALL, NEBRASKA – The Torrington High School cross-country team, including athletes from across Goshen County, raised the bar at the Kimball Invite on Friday, September 13.

Both the boys and girls varsity teams clinched third place at the event. The boys posted 47 points, beating Kimball, Mitchell, Cheyenne South and Morrill. The girls placed third at 39 points, advancing ahead of Pine Bluffs on the leaderboard.

Four Goshen County athletes broke into the top 10 with two harriers capturing gold.

Junior Kaycee Kosmicki won the girls’ varsity 5K race, posting a time of 21 minutes, 49.00 seconds. Kosmicki reached the finish line more than 23 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Cecilia Barron of Morrill.

In the boys’ varsity 5K, junior Sullivan Wilson clinched gold with a time of 18:06.46. Wilson crossed the finish line with more than 30 seconds to spare over the runner-up, Ron Varner of Bridgeport.

Freshman Cole Tregemba finished third in varsity boys, timing in at 19:11.73.

Senior Callie Taylor picked up fourth place in girls’ varsity, crossing the finish line with a time of 23:18.46.

“The Blazers cross-country team had an outstanding performance (at Kimball), with four runners finishing in the top 10,” coach Kelsey Grant said. “It was incredible to witness the hard work and dedication pay off as the team showed strength and determination on the course. We couldn’t be prouder of the effort put in by every runner.”
