Tiger trio named all-state

TORRINGTON – The 2024 American Legion baseball season wrapped up the previous week and all-state honors were released on Saturday. Head coaches from 17 teams in the ‘A’ division selected the top athletes from teams across Wyoming for the 2024 all-state rosters.

Three Torrington Tigers made the prestigious list, with Mac Hibben and Drew Kramer named to the first team and Ayden Desmond to the second team.

Hibben, Kramer and Desmond also picked up all-conference accolades following the district playoffs at the end of July.

Mac Hibben

Hibben earned second-team all-state honors in 2023.

The incoming senior at Torrington High School excelled at pitching and batting. Hibben posted a batting average of .488 and collected 84 hits on the summer, including 11 doubles and four triples. Hibben hit a grand slam during the game against Buffalo on June 1.

Hibben led the team in RBI at 75 and scored 51 runs over the course of the season. He tallied 23 steals and a stealing percentage of 82.14 percent.

On the mound, the talented leftie pitched 74.2 innings for the Tigers for 11 wins and two saves. Hibben completed the season with an impressive 2.812 ERA. 

Hibben struck out 118 throughout the season, including 11 strike outs against the Buckeye Bombers on May 26.

Defensively, Hibben posted a fielding average of .961 and tagged out 158.

Drew Kramer

Kramer begins his sophomore year at Torrington High School this fall and this is his first all-state award.

Kramer proved a powerful force at batting, finishing the season with a .456 average. Collecting 82 hits during the summer, Kramer led the team in runs scored with 74 and tallied 13 doubles and one triple.

Kramer also hit two home runs during the season, including a long ball against Cheyenne on June 11 and a round tripper versus Riverton on July 13. Additional highlights included four runs apiece against both Cheyenne on June 11 and Douglas on July 12.

Kramer led the team in steals at 28 and tallied a stealing percentage of 82.35. During the May 21 game against WESTCO, Kramer collected three steals.

On defense, Kramer completed the season with a fielding average of .863.

Ayden Desmond

Desmond will be a senior at Southeast High School this fall and this is his third all-state award. The Tiger snagged second-team honors in 2022 and first-team recognition in 2023.

Desmond demonstrated exceptional skill in multiple positions for the Tigers on defense and at batting. 

On the mound, Desmond pitched 58.1 innings for Torrington, tallying five wins and one save. The leftie struck out 65 during the season for a 3.840 ERA.

Desmond tagged out 135 over the course of the summer, posted a fielding average of 1.000 and participated in two double plays.

At bat, Desmond totaled 52 hits with eight doubles and three triples. He collected 39 RBI and scored 64 runs. Desmond rounded out the season with a .385 batting average.

Desmond also totaled 11 steals and a stealing percentage of 91.67.
