TORRINGTON – Mrs. F’s School of Music kicks off its inaugural classes this week, offering a dynamic range of musical education for students from kindergarten through high school. Led by Courtney Firminhac, a familiar face from years of teaching music at Lincoln Elementary, this new venture promises to be a melody of learning and creativity.

Firminhac, drawing on her extensive background in music education and her firsthand experience raising children in the community, recognized a growing interest in music-based extracurricular programs. As she saw the opportunity for her to fill that need, she sought advice from Stephanie Kath from 28th Avenue Dance Studio who encouraged and supported Firminhac and helped to transform her vision into reality.

At the heart of the School of Music’s curriculum is a commitment to group learning. “Making music together is special,” Firminhac shares. “It’s not just about the music. You have to trust each other, so you build relationships with the things you have in common. It’s a beautiful thing. Making music together is a beautiful thing where lifelong friendships are built.” Her approach also seeks to cultivate confidence and a lasting appreciation for the arts among students.

Firminhac is dedicated to catering to the diverse needs of the community. To support homeschooling families, she offers afternoon classes covering a wide range of topics. Classes for all students are being held on Friday afternoons with specialized sessions in singing, rhythm, and composition. Many classes feature a blend of secular and sacred music, ensuring a rich and inclusive musical experience.

With its welcoming atmosphere and focus on collaboration, Mrs. F’s School of Music is set to become a vibrant hub for students in and around Torrington, harmonizing education with creativity and community spirit. Firminhac envisions a future where the school fosters a love for music that transcends the classroom, encouraging students to share their passion with others and participate in community performances. As it invites students to explore their musical potential and find their own unique voices, Mrs. F’s School of Music is poised to strike all the right chords in Torrington.
