TORRINGTON – Warm temperatures, bluebird skies and a slight breeze greeted high school golfers from across the region at the Torrington Invite hosted by Cottonwood Country Club on Thursday and Friday, September 5-6.

Both the Torrington High School boys and girls varsity teams battled tough competition at the two-day event. The girls clinched sixth place as a team, shooting 622 strokes and beating Thunder Basin, Natrona County and Cheyenne South.

The boys came in eighth place overall with a score of 702 strokes, finishing ahead of Glenrock, Douglas, Campbell County, Cheyenne South and Rawlins.

“This is a tough tourney as it is a very loaded field and teams like Wheatland are shooting under par as individuals and as a team on day one,” coach Jeff Halley said. “Our kids battled pretty well and our younger kids just keep improving. (Senior) Madyson Banister played well and was just out of the placing in 11th.”

Banister advanced to 11th place on the girls’ varsity leaderboard with a two-day score of 196 strokes. The senior shot consistently with 98 on both Thursday and Friday.

Junior Caleb Kelly led the Blazer boys with an overall score of 164 strokes. Kelly shot 79 in the first round and 85 in the second.
