Lady Doggers defeat Pine Bluffs

PINE BLUFFS – The Lingle-Fort Laramie (LFL) Lady Doggers volleyball team rallied from defeat in the first set against Pine Bluffs at an away game on September 5 to win the next three sets and score a 3-1 victory against their 2A rival.

Pine Bluffs won a neck-and-neck first set that went beyond 25 points, 27-25. LFL responded with victories in the second and third sets, 25-20 and 25-21.

The high-stakes fourth set came down to the wire, with LFL digging deep to win, 28-26.

A four-set victory

Following a stalemate at 10 points in the first set, the Lady Doggers pulled ahead, 11-10, with a kill by senior Brenly Shipp. LFL remained ahead with kills by Shipp, junior Jordynn Speckner, junior Skyla Wunder and senior Grace Gibson. 

Pine Bluffs tied the game at 24 points. A serving error by the Lady Hornets briefly returned the lead to LFL, 25-24, before Pine Bluffs scored two points to win, 27-25.

Rallying in the second set, the Lady Doggers controlled the scoreboard from the first point to game point. Wunder powered over four kills and aced a pair of serves. Gibson also aced two serves while junior Hallie Fuller and senior Addison Scott reached up for a block.

Speckner contributed two kills in the second set and Shipp three, including game point, 25-20.

Pine Bluffs tied the third set at 11. The Lady Doggers took the lead, 12-11, with a kill by Gibson. The set reached a deadlock at 12 and Pine Bluffs remained ahead by one or two points, despite kills by Fuller, Shipp and Gibson.

Ship aced a serve and tied the set at 19. Kills by Wunder and Jordynn Speckner widened LFL’s lead, 21-19. 

Pine Bluffs matched the Lady Doggers in scoring, 21-21.

Wunder slammed over a pair of kills to place LFL up, 23-21. Fuller scored game point, 25-21, with a kill assisted by Shipp.

In the fourth set, the Lady Doggers ended a stalemate at 11 with kills by Shipp and Gibson. A block by Gibson pulled LFL up, 15-11. Senior libero Kenzi Wilkins aced a serve and Shipp slammed over a kill. An ace by Shipp widened LFL’s lead, 18-13.

Pine Bluffs battled back and tied the set at 18. The Lady Doggers recaptured the lead with a kill by Wunder, 20-19. Gibson and Fuller both scored with kills before Pine Bluffs tied the set at 26 points.

LFL responded with points 27 and 28, scored by Wilkins at libero.

The Lady Doggers tallied 38 kills against Pine Bluffs, with Shipp contributing nine, Wunder eight and Gibson seven.

Shipp aced six serves while Gibson served up two points.

On defense, Shipp set the pace for LFL with 11 blocks. Wunder tallied six blocks.

Wilkins posted 18 digs as libero and Wunder delivered 12 assists as setter for LFL..
