GREELEY, COLORADO – Karen Jean Barber (née Bates), 63, passed away on September 3, 2024, after a sudden illness. She passed while in a Greeley, Colorado hospital.

Born on May 12, 1961, in Nuremburg, Germany, she was adopted as a child by John and Doris Bates, of Lubbock, Texas.

She recently made her home in Torrington when she came to live with her fiancé. She previously lived in Littleton, Colorado.

She dedicated her life to the noble profession of nursing, providing care and comfort to those in need, and later, as a nurse recruiter, she guided many aspiring nurses with her experience and wisdom.

Karen’s warmth was felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as delving into a good book and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, which she loved to share with her loved ones. She loved dogs and they were a treasured part of her life.

She is survived by her children, Steffani Paletta of Connecticut, Jane Feller of Denver, and Spencer Barber of Denver, and her beloved fiancé, Larry Ray of Torrington. Her absence will be felt deeply by her family, friends, and the many lives she touched.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, John and Doris Bates.

In respect to Karen’s wishes, there will be no services. Her family asks that those who knew her honor Karen’s memory by embodying the kindness and care that she exemplified throughout her life.
