XC girls fourth, boys fifth at regionals

THERMOPOLIS – Led by a third-place finish by freshman Sera Glass, the Torrington Lady Trailblazers finished fourth as a team at the 3A East Regional meet Friday in Thermopolis.

Glass turned in a time of 22:01.84 to capture the bronze. She was less than a second behind the second-place finisher (McKenna Bomengen, Thermopolis), who had a time of 22:01.43.

Behind Glass, Jaiden Hopkins was the next girl to cross the line for Torrington, taking 18th with a time of 24:41.44. Brittany Schlager clocked the third-best time for the Lady Blazers with a time of 25:29.92, finishing 22rd. Renee Cline (26th) and Shelby Schainost (31st) were the final Lady Blazers to compete, finishing with times of 25:34.07 and 26:14.57.

The Lady Blazers finished with 101 team points to slide into the fourth slot. Worland took the top spot with 61 points, followed by Newcastle (second) and Rawlins (third), who had 82 and 84 points. Torrington edged out Buffalo, who had 109 points.

William Fluckiger again paced Torrington in the boys race, snagging 10th with a time of 19:00.28. Pake Haun crossed the line next, clocking a time of 20:29.06, earning him 25th. Quentin Meyer was just behind Haun in the 27th position with a time of 20:33.35.

Jacob Polkowske was the next Blazer boy to finish with a time of 21:09.55, good enough for 36th. Tristen Kingsley (42nd), Jesse Lay (52nd) and Cameron Juma (68th) rounded out the scoring runners for Torrington, turning in times of 21:34.07, 22:01.70 and 23:25.07. Nick Sherbeyn also competed for Torrington, finishing 82nd with a time of 25:08.59.

The Torrington boys finished fifth in the team standings with 123 points. Worland took the top team spot, amassing 30 points. Buffalo and Douglas rounded out the top-three, with 81 and 88 points. Newcastle took the fourth spot (94 points), while the Blazers edged out Rawlins, who had 125 points.

The Torrington boys and girls return to action for their final meet of the season. The Blazers are set to compete in the state invitational Saturday in Sheridan.
