SCOTTSBLUFF – Following the cancelation of the Morrill Invitational on Friday morning, Lingle-Fort Laramie (LFL) track coaches successfully entered the boys’ and girls’ teams into the Scottsbluff Twilight Invitational on April 19.

LFL tracksters rose to the occasion, adapting to the last-minute schedule change and posted solid performances against larger teams from Nebraska and Wyoming.

The Doggers placed fifth as a team with 71 points while the Lady Doggers came in sixth, posting 33 points.

Sophomore Sullivan Wilson broke the long-time Lingle-Fort Laramie school record in the boys’ 1600-meters, snagging second place with a time of 4 minutes, 38.79.

Bob Daiss set the previous record of 4:39.95 in 1984.

Senior Wyatt Sylvester snagged gold in the boys’ pole vault, hitting a state qualifying mark of 12 feet, 6 inches. Sylvester beat the runner-up, Dawson Barrett of Scottsbluff, by six inches and tied for the fifth all-time best pole-vaulting performance in LFL history.

Junior Louden Bremer captured first place in the boys’ 300-meter hurdles, timing in at 41.63 seconds – 2.56 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Landen Heine of Scottsbluff. Bremer also posted a state-qualifying time in the 110-hurdles, placing fourth at 16.85 seconds.

In the boys’ 400-meters, junior Brody Roberts clinched first place with a time of 53.16 seconds. Roberts crossed the finish line 0.71 seconds ahead of Alliance’s Trevor Zurn.

Senior Izzy Spears dominated the girls’ discus, garnering gold with a toss of 104-07. Spears’ toss landed nearly three feet further than the mark for the runner-up, Lexi Fiscus of Bayard.

“The level of competition was considerably higher in Scottsbluff than in Morrill, but our kids responded very well,” coach Mike Lashley said. “We had multiple PRs, several season-best performances and even added a handful more automatic state qualifiers to our list.”
