Trailblazers take care of business

TORRINGTON – The Torrington Trailblazers boys soccer team defended its home pitch in a 3-0 Senior Night win over Buffalo on Saturday.
“Today, we played a very solid game, but we just had a hard time getting a rhythm started,” coach Jeshua Arnusch said. “We ended up capitalizing on our opportunities for the most part and I thought we did a solid job of keeping possession.”
Senior A.J. Shields got the action started, finding himself with possession behind the Bison keeper, nailing a goal in the ninth minute to put Torrington up 1-0. Just before halftime, Ethan Creagar took a free kick around 30 yards out and sailed it into the top right corner of the goal, giving Torrington a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

Anthony Munoz rounded out the scoring for the Blazers knocking in a goal in the 73rd minute. Creagar and Braden Claussen each had an assist in the 3-0 win.
On top of the offensive output, the Blazers recorded their sixth shutout of the season. Tyler Ring recorded the clean sheet, racking up 11 saves.
“I was also very excited with the way that our defense held Buffalo in check,” Arnusch said. “I thought we only gave them one quality look at goal and that was from at least 25 yards out. After playing them in the tournament earlier this year, I though we did a lot better job of pushing their attacks wide to Chase Bergeson and Josh Kingsley.”
Torrington advanced to 11-2 on the year with a 2-0 record in the conference. The Blazers played Newcastle at home on Tuesday after the press deadline. Torrington returns to the pitch for two final road games of the regular season. On Thursday, the Blazers’ varsity squad plays Lander at 3:30 p.m. and they hit the road for Rawlins Saturday with the varsity game set for 1 p.m.
