Torrington volleyball falls to Newcastle, Buffalo

BUFFALO – The Torrington High School volleyball team suffered a pair of weekend road losses to 3A Northeast Quadrant foes Newcastle and Buffalo.

On Friday, Torrington won the opening set 25-23 in Newcastle, but the Lady Dogies responded with three straight wins 25-14, 25-15, 25-13 to knock off the Lady Blazers 3-1.

Junior Alyssa Albaugh led the team with eight kills, while freshman Brooklyn Asmus added six. Senior Kayla Dreiling and sophomore Teryn Stokes had four each. Senior Marissa Moorehouse recorded the team’s lone serving ace, while Albaugh had the team’s only solo block. Senior Kalissa Reyes handed out 13 assists.

The next day, the team headed west to Buffalo where the Lady Bison handed Torrington a 3-0 sweep.

The Lady Blazers kept it close in the opening set 25-21, but the Lady Bison took the second and third sets 25-12, 25-13.

Sophomore Olive Osmera led the team with five kills, while Albaugh and Dreiling had three apiece. Osmera and senior Jade Brothwell had two serving aces each, and senior Avey Jespersen had two blocks, including the team’s only solo block. Reyes tallied eight assists.

The two losses drop the Lady Blazers to 5-21 on the season. Torrington returns home to wrap up Southeast Quadrant play on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Blazers host Wheatland at 3 p.m. Friday and Rawlins at 2 p.m. Saturday.
