TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School wrestling team finished the day winless at the final home quadrangular of the season on Friday with losses to Buffalo, Burns/Pine Bluffs and Wheatland.
In the opening round, the Blazers fell to the Buffalo Bison 33-24.
THS freshman Bryce Hager opened the match at 152 pounds with a fall win. Buffalo scored wins at 160 and 170 pounds before a double open at 182.
Torrington was back in the scoring column at 195 pounds with a forfeit victory for sophomore Sam Birdsall. At 220 pounds, sophomore Sam Sorenson, the No. 1-ranked Class 3A wrestler, scored a fall win.
In the 106-pound bracket, Buffalo picked up a forfeit win, and freshman Reece Grubbs gave Torrington a 24-18 lead with a third-period fall.
However, Buffalo got wins at 126, 132 and 145 to slip past the Blazers.
In the second round, Burns/Pine Bluffs defeated Torrington, 54-17.
The Blazers spotted the visitors a 24-0 lead before Sorenson put Torrington the scoreboard with a fall victory.
Grubbs scored a 17-2 technical fall win, while Hager capped off the dual with a pin midway through the second period.
In the final dual of the evening, the Wheatland Bulldogs handed the Blazers a 53-12 loss.
Torrington’s only points of the dual came from forfeit wins at 220 and 113 pounds.
The Blazers travel to Wheatland for the Wheatland Duals on Friday, Jan. 29. Action begins at 1 p.m.
