RAWLINS – The Torrington High School volleyball team dropped its opening round match with the Wheatland Lady Bulldogs to close out the 2020 season.

The Lady Blazers and Wheatland split their first two meetings during quadrant play with each team winning on their home court, but the Lady Bulldogs got the best of Torrington, 3-1 (25-13, 23-25, 25-19, 25-17).

The teams split the opening two sets, but the Lady Bulldogs edged Torrington in the third and fourth sets to close out the match.

Unlike in year’s past, because of COVID-19 and the different format for regionals, the Lady Blazers didn’t have the consolation bracket to fall back on to qualify for state.

With the loss, Torrington season came to a close.

Junior Reece Halley led the team with 13 kills and four blocks, while senior Michaela Moorehouse added nine kills. Junior Allison Brummell seven kills and five blocks. Senior Kameron Stitt led the team with 29 dig, while Halley had 20. Senior Morgan Bates tallied 28 assists.

The Lady Blazers season ended with a 15-5 record, while the win punched Wheatland’s ticket to state, which will be held on Friday, Nov. 6. Action gets underway at 10 a.m. at the Casper Events Center.
