THS boys fourth, girls sixth in Mitchell

MITCHELL, Neb. – The Torrington Trailblazers combined for 24 top-eight finishes at the Mitchell Invite on Thursday, with the boys finishing fourth as a team and the girls snagging sixth.

The distance runners for the Blazer boys put on a solid performance. Aaron Borger picked up the top spot in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:08.92. Matthew Garcia posted a time of 2:13.83 (fourth) and Josh Posten came in at 2:17.36 (seventh). Pake Haun finished sixth in the 3200, clocking a time of 11:13.18.

The distance relay for the Blazers was also successful. Borger, Garcia and Posten were joined by Cameron Juma for the 3200-meter relay, which finished first with a time of 8:47.16.

Borger, Garcia and Juma were joined by Kevin Parish for the 1600-meter relay. The foursome finished in 3:47.50 to finish fifth. In the 400-meter relay, Parish, Bryan Lemmon, Brett Posten and Bo Moorehouse finished in 46.41 seconds, snagging fourth.

Also on the track, Moorehouse finished seventh in the 400, recording a time of 53.89 seconds. Lemmon secured the final first-place finish for the Blazer boys, clocking a time of 15.45 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles to win the title.

Lemmon carried his solid day into the field events, where he took second in the high jump after clearing 6 feet, 3 inches. Casey Britton was not far behind, clearing 5 feet, 6 inches to take sixth. In the pole vault, Cade Schwartzkopf had a 11-foot effort, which earned him fifth.

Jacob Wamboldt had the best finish among the throwers, recording a put of 45 feet, 6 inches to take fourth. Nathaniel Woodruff was just behind him in the shot put with a throw of 42 feet (fifth). Woodruff jumped Wamboldt in the placings in the discus, with a throw of 134 feet, 9 inches to take fifth.

Torrington’s 60 points tied it for fourth with Pine Bluffs. Sidney, Neb. took the top spot as a team with 102 points, while Gering, Neb. (90) and Mitchell (80) rounded out the top-three teams.

Girls

Sera Glass had the best finish among the Lady Blazers, taking second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:36.89. She also recorded a fourth-place finish in the 1600, finishing in 6:04.91.

In the shorter distances, Latosha Wiford picked up a fourth-place finish in the 200, clocking a time of 28.34 seconds. Onalise Albaugh finished the event in 29.06 seconds to earn eighth. Albaugh also competed in pole vault, securing sixth with an 8-foot effort.

In other field events, Renee Cline placed in the top eight in both the long jump and triple jump. Her mark of 14 feet, 6.5 inches in the long jump earned her fourth, while she took eighth in the triple jump after clearing 30 feet, 5.25 inches.

Rounding out the placers, the Lady Blazer finished in the top-four in two relays. Cline, Wiford, Adia Sherbeyn and Katie Wiford joined forces for the 1600-meter relay, finishing third with a time of 4:35.39. Cline, Albaugh, Latosha Wiford and HeLena McGaugh linked up for the 400-meter relay, finishing in 53.96 seconds to take fourth.

The Lady Blazers amassed 31 points in the team race to finish sixth. In a tight race at the top of the standings, Sidney, Neb. had the edge with 93.5 points. Gering, Neb., with 92 points, and Mitchell, with 89 points, were not far behind, finishing second and third.

The Blazers track team returns to action Friday for the Okie Blanchard Invitational at Cheyenne East High School.
