Three LFLSE grapplers place at Charlie Lake

CHEYENNE – Kaleb Brothwell, Louden Bremer and Grant Logsdon paced the Lingle-Fort Laramie/Southeast wrestling team at the season-opening Charlie Lake Invite, hosted by Cheyenne East High School on Saturday.

Brothwell led the team with a runner-up finish at 132 pounds. He scored a 17-8 major decision in the opening round before scoring two pins to reach the championship match. In his final match, Brothwell suffered a 14-5 major decision loss at the hands of Liam Fox of Cheyenne East.

Meanwhile, Bremer and Logsdon both ended their days with victories.

Bremer, at 145 pounds, finished third defeating Scottsbluff, Nebraska’s Joshua Jennings by pin. Bremer’s lone setback of the day came in the semifinal round to Slater Bates of Cheyenne Central. To reach the semifinals, Bremer pinned his opening round opponent and scored a 6-5 win in the quarterfinals.

At 120 pounds, Logsdon went 4-1 on the day to place fifth. After opening the day with a quick pin, Logsdon was pinned in the quarterfinal round. The LFLSE wrestler battled back with three straight wins to place fifth. He picked up two more pins to reach the fifth-place match, where he defeated Cheyenne Central’s Wyatt Weiss 10-4.

Also, at 120 pounds, Wyatt Sylvester went 1-2 on the day, seeing his tournament come to a close in the second round of the consolation bracket to his teammate Logsdon.

Gage Gibson (182 pounds) and Jaden Houk (138 pounds) were the only other two varsity wrestlers to compete for LFLSE. Both went winless.

As a team, LFLSE finished 14th with 55 points. Eaton, Colorado won the team title with 139 points, edging Thompson Valley, Colorado and Gering, Nebraska, who finished second and third, respectively.

Junior varsity ranks

Alec DeMarce (178-182 pounds), Kade Gates (130-133 pounds) and Silas Boyd (132-138) led the LFLSE team with a second-place finishes in the junior varsity ranks. All three went 3-1 on the day.

Tyler Swartwood (170-178 pounds), Emmett Coxbill (192-203), Quirt Lee (143-146) and Tiegen Thompson (167-180) finished third in their respective brackets. Both wrestlers went 2-2 on the day.

Carter Blevins, Lance York and Jaden VanGundy also won one match each.

The LFLSE wrestling team returns to the Hot Springs (South Dakota) Invite on Saturday. Because of Wyoming’s dual only format a year ago, the team was unable to attend the tournament. Action gets underway at 9 a.m.
