Southeast volleyball 3-3 in Douglas

DOUGLAS – The Southeast Lady Cyclone volleyball team went 3-3 at the season-opening Douglas Invite on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, the Lady Cyclones went 1-2 with their lone pool play win coming against Class 3A Wheatland Lady Bulldogs.

Southeast opened the season with a 2-0 (25-14, 25-22) loss to Burns.

Sophomore Jordan Stoddard led the Lady Cyclones with five kills and four blocks, while freshman Brenna Herring added three blocks and five assists. Junior Becca Foos tallied a team high eight digs.

Southeast responded to the loss with a 2-1 (19-25, 25-21, 15-9) win over Wheatland.

Senior Morgan Ekwall and Stoddard led the way with three kills each in the win. Ekwall also had nine digs, while sophomore Grace Steinbock dished out a team-high five assists.

The Lady Cyclones wrapped up day one with a 2-0 (25-10, 25-10) loss to Wright, the defending Class 2A state champions.

Stoddard led the way with four blocks and two kills, while Ekwall recorded a team-high seven digs.

On Saturday, the Lady Cyclones returned to the court with a pair of wins over Newcastle and Big Horn to open the day.

Southeast knocked off the Dogies 2-0 (25-11, 25-10) and Big Horn 2-1 (21-25, 25-20, 15-10).

Against Newcastle, Ekwall paced the team with eighth serving aces, four kills and three digs, while Steinbock added four assists and three kills.

In the win against Big Horn, Herring led Southeast with four kills and four assists, while Steinbock served up six aces, to go along with six digs and five assists. Senior Kendall Haas tallied a game-high 13 digs.

In the final match of the weekend, Southeast fell to Wheatland 2-1 (25-13, 16-25, 15-13).

Stoddard tallied a team-high six kills, while Herring dished out seven assists. Ekwall added seven digs, to go along with four aces and four kills.

The Lady Cyclones travel to the Big Horn Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13-14.
