Southeast girls push No. 1 Pine Bluffs to limit

YODER – The Southeast Lady Cyclones had 2A’s top-ranked Pine Bluffs in their sights, down 17-14 in the third quarter, but the Lady Hornets pulled away to get the win in Yoder on Friday, 45-29.
The Lady Cyclones got off to a slow start. They were outscored 12-2 in the first frame. They battled back in the second to put up six points to the Lady Hornets’ five, heading into the half down 17-8.
In the third quarter, Southeast scored the first six points to bring the score to 17-14 with 5:35 remaining in the frame. The Lady Cyclones hit a run at the end of the third, taking a 29-18 lead into the fourth, and they continued that run to cruise to the win.
Hailey Anderson recorded a double-double for the Lady Cyclones. She amassed 11 points and 10 rebounds. Seven of her boards came on the offensive glass.
On senior night against the Lady Hornets, Southeast’s lone senior, Emily Buchanan, turned in nine points and 11 rebounds. She added a team-high three assists to her stat sheet.

Ellie Schmitt was third on the team in boards, with eight, all from the offensive end of the floor. Kaci Schmick led the Lady Cyclones in steals, with six.

Southeast 43, Glenrock 34
To close out the regular season, Southeast put up 12 or more points in three quarters against Glenrock on the road, cruising to a 43-34 win Saturday.
The Lady Cyclones poured in six points in the first quarter compared to seven from Glenrock, but then it was all Southeast. The Lady Cyclones racked up 13 points in the second and 12 in both the third and fourth quarters. They limited the Lady Herders to single-digits in all but the fourth quarter, where Southeast allowed 12 points.
Anderson again accounted for a double-double, contributing 15 points and 12 rebounds. Six of her rebounds came on the offensive glass. She chipped in three assists as well.
Buchanan was the leading scorer for the Lady Cyclones against Glenrock, amassing 17 points, paired with six rebounds. Schmitt tied Anderson for the team-lead in assists, with three, while Morgan Ekwall topped the list in steals, with four.
The 1-1 effort over the weekend puts the Lady Cyclones at 15-7 this winter, with a 4-4 record in the conference. Their record against conference foes puts them in the third seed from the south for the regional tournament this weekend.
