TORRINGTON – Torrington Trailblazer senior Tyler Ring signed his letter of intent Wednesday to play soccer for Sheridan College next year.
“It was a tough decision. I had the opportunity to play a couple sports, even possibly three, but I decided I wanted to play soccer,” Ring said. “I feel like that’s the sport that I feel I’m best at and I enjoy the most.”
Ring, the Blazers’ keeper, first took the pitch for Torrington as a sophomore in 2015, racking up 119 saves, which was fourth-highest in 3A. As a team in 2015, Torrington allowed only 22 goals, recording a +43 goal differential.

As a junior, Ring racked up 135 saves, ranking him third in the classification. The Blazers allowed only 13 goals throughout the season, upping their goal differential to +45.
For games played this year through April 16, Ring has racked up 37 saves. He has not been the only Blazer between the pipes this season, as both Nathan Stitt and Lathan Canaday had varsity minutes in goal at a tournament in Worland. As a team, Torrington has allowed only 12 goals this season, eight of which came when Ring was on the field as a position player. Earlier this spring, Ring scored the first goal of his high school career.
With Ring as keeper, Torrington has seen success. In 2015, the Blazers finished third at the state tournament. When Ring was a junior, Torrington reached the state tournament before losing two games. This season, the Blazers have the best record in 3A (10-2) and are zeroing in on a solid seed for the state tournament.
“Day one I think I can bring athleticism, intensity, leadership and just hard work every single day,” Ring said of what he can offer Sheridan.
The Generals from Sheridan College went 1-14 last season but are under new leadership for the fall. Ring said he will have a shot at the starting keeper position.
“It’s great up there. I love the coach,” Ring said of Sheridan. “The scenery is great. The team is rebuilding as this is the coach’s first recruiting class that he has pulled in by himself so I am excited to see what we can put together up there.”
