TORRINGTON – For the second straight year, the annual Maroon and Silver Duals not only kicked off the Torrington High School wrestling season, it allowed future Blazers to be involved.

The night mixed up matches between the Torrington Wrestling Club, Torrington Middle School and THS under the spotlight of a single light hanging above the mat.

“I just appreciate the community coming out and supporting it,” THS coach Cody Grant said. “It’s really awesome we get some of our future Blazer wrestlers wrestling with our current high school wrestlers.”

Grant is hopeful this event will help rebuild the number of grapplers down the road as the younger ones move into high school by getting them more excited about wrestling.

“They come out here and warm up with us and wrestle under the light,” Grant said. “Hopefully, that’ll keep kids out and get them excited.”

The Torrington wrestling team opened the season at home on Thursday against Cheyenne South High School before heading to the Charlie Lake Invite hosted by Cheyenne East High School Friday and Saturday.

“I’m excited for the season, and we hit it hard starting Thursday,” Grant said.
