Locals earn postseason basketball accolades

CASPER – A trio of area athletes capped off the basketball season with all-state honors announced by the Wyoming Coaches Association this week.

It was the second such honor for Southeast High School seniors Hailey Anderson and Ellie Schmitt.

The duo led the Lady Cyclones to last weekend’s Class 2A state championship game against Wyoming Indian.

Schmitt averaged 13.6 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.6 steals over the three games in Casper.

Meanwhile, Anderson averaged seven points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game at state.

In addition to the all-state accolades, Anderson, Schmitt, Morgan Ekwall, Kaci Schmick, Hayden Anderson, Bodie Herring and Cade Herring earned 2A Southeast Quadrant All-Conference honors.

Lingle-Fort Laramie senior Ty Mueller also earned Class 1A All-State honors for the Doggers.

In the 0-2 weekend, Muller averaged 12.5 points and four rebounds to go along with two steals, three assists and two blocked shots.

Savannah Mirich, Ashley Riley, Kaelyn Riley, Cordell Forkner, Ty Mueller and Bailey Powell earned All-Conference honors for the Doggers.

Mueller was also named 1A Southeast Quadrant Player of the Year, averaging 13.6 points, 4.4 rebounds per game over the course of the 14-12 season, while L-FL coach Steve Zimmerman was named Coach of the Year.
