LARAMIE – Several Goshen County athletes competed in Laramie at the Wyoming Open, with locals, who competed for Cheyenne Central, combining for 11 top-15 finishes.
Lingle-Fort Laramie’s Landen Fuller continued his hot indoor season with a second-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:04.65. He was also on the winning 4x400-meter relay team, along with Connor Lockhorn and Ishmael DePaulitte.
Torrington junior Nakalyn Garner cleared 8 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault to snag the silver medal. In other field event for the girls, L-FL’s Jordyn Gaspers took seventh in the high jump with a 4 foot, 4-inch effort. Fellow Lady Dogger Kalli Nichol matched Gaspers mark, also tying for seventh. Gaspers cleared 13 feet, 1.25 inches in the long jump to capture 13th.
On the track, Latasha Wiford (Torrington) clocked a time of 29.45 seconds in the 200 to take 11th. In the 1600, Lady Dogger Cora Frederick finishing 15th with a time of 7:15.72. Kaylan Maez (L-FL) took to the track for the 55-meter hurdles, snagging 12th with a time of 10.30 seconds.
In boys action, Trailblazer Aaron Borger had the best finish, other than Fuller, by taking fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:13.97. Fellow Blazer Corbin Harris took eighth in the shot put, recording a put of 40 feet, 2 inches.
The local athletes will join the rest of the Indians at the Kevin Salverson Memorial Invite at Cheyenne Central, with events kicking off at 10 a.m.
