LINGLE – Brandon Hill and Justice Madayag led Lingle-Fort Laramie with 18 points each as the Doggers beat Morrill, Neb. at home on Tuesday, 58-46.
The Doggers opened the game slow, falling behind 18-11 after the first quarter.
“I think Morrill played exceptionally well,” coach Steve Zimmerman said. “We missed a couple shots and all of a sudden we were down seven.”
LFL put up 15 or more points in each of the next three quarters, while allowing no more than 10 in a quarter. By halftime, the Doggers were down 27-26, but pulled away in the second half.

“We wanted to execute better and get the ball where it should be and get better shots” on the offensive surge, Zimmerman said. “As the game went on, we got better and the passing got better. We are slowly crawling back to where we were before Christmas.”
Hill led the Doggers in converted two-pointers, with seven. He also had a three-pointer and a free throw. Hill was second for the Doggers in rebounds, with eight. On top of his 18 points, including a three-pointer and three points from the charity stripe, Madayag had four assists to his credit.
Garrett Cooper was the final Dogger in double-digits, with 10 points. He hit four buckets and two free throws. Cooper led the Doggers in rebounds, with 11, for a double-double.
“It we can get three to four guys in double-figures, we have a good chance to win the game,” Zimmerman said.
Dallen Fleenor, with seven points, and Ty Mueller, with five points, rounded out the scoring for LFL, each converting on a three-pointer against Morrill. Mueller led the Doggers in assists, with five. Taylor Wagner contributed four assists on Tuesday.
LFL’s assistant coach, Billy Edwards, coached in Morrill last winter. Zimmerman said that added some extra spice to the match-up.
“You had two teams battle about as hard as they could,” he said. “We were fortunate to be on the winning side,” he said.
The win puts the Doggers at 10-4 this winter. They played Southeast on Thursday after the press deadline. Their next action comes on the road against Lusk on Friday. The varsity game is set to tip-off at 7 p.m.
