LFLSE wrestlers win titles in Newcastle


YODER – The Lingle-Fort Laramie/Southeast wrestling team had a busy weekend with a home dual against Burns/Pine Bluffs and a trip to the Newcastle Dogie Invite.

On Thursday night in Yoder, LFLSE edged Burns/Pine Bluffs 40-38 for the dual victory.

The home team scored three victorious in the final four matches to score the come-from-behind win.

Burns/Pine Bluffs won the first three matches, but Louden Bremer (152 pounds), Lance York (160) and Tiegan Thompson (170) picked up key wins to move LFLSE ahead 40-35 heading into the final match of the night.

At 182 pounds, Burns/Pine Bluffs picked up an 8-4 decision to win, scoring only three team points.

Amon Napier (106), Gideon Boyd (113), Wyatt Sylvester (126) and Kaleb Brothwell (138) also picked up wins for LFLSE.

The next day, the team traveled to Newcastle, and four LFLSE wrestlers brought home individual titles from the one-day tournament.

Sylvester, Brothwell, Bremer and Josie Houk won their respective weight classes.

At 126 pounds, Sylvester won all four of his matches by pin. Bremer, at 152 pounds, also picked up four wins by pin. Brothwell scored three pins and a 6-2 decision en route to the 138-pound championship. Houk was the lone female to take part in the tournament, finishing the day 3-0 at 155 pounds. She picked up two pins and a 12-7 decision in the championship match.

Boyd, Napier, Mason Sorensen (126), Brayden Posten (132), Brayden Dykes (152), Jaden VanGundy (152), York, Thompson, Carter Blevins (170), Connor Curry (182), Taylor Swartwood (195) and Colter McFarlin (220) also picked up wins for LFLSE.

As a team, LFLSE finished fourth and was the highest placing 2A school at the tournament with 168.5 points. Sturgis, South Dakota won the tournament with 280 points, while Thunder Basin was second with 231. Natrona County was third with 230 points.

In the junior varsity ranks, Wyatt Gladson (145) went 2-1 to finish second, while Tallyn Wilkins (138) finished third with a 1-2 record.

LFLSE hosts the Dogger Invite on Saturday, Jan. 21. Action gets underway at 9 a.m. in Lingle.
