LINGLE – The Lingle-Fort Laramie High School volleyball team wrapped up the home portion of the 2023 schedule last week with a sweep of the Guernsey-Sunrise Lady Vikings before turning around and falling to the Pine Bluffs Hornets on the road the next night.
On Thursday, the Lady Doggers celebrated the careers of three senior players and a manger en route to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-10) victory over Guernsey.
Lingle only trailed once the entire evening which came on the first point of the second set.
Early in the match though, it was a trio of kills by senior Natalie Speckner who helped the Lady Doggers to an 8-4 lead. An 8-2 spurt by the home team pushed the team to double-digits in the set.
In the second, Guernsey scored the first point of the set, but LFL scored the next three points which was capped off by an ace from senior Leah Foster. Guernsey tied the set at three apiece, but the Lady Doggers countered with a 9-1 run to pull away for the set win.
In the third, the visiting Lady Vikings got no closer than 4-3. Lingle used a 7-1 run to pull away for the sweep.
“The girls played well and kept the game going at their pace rather than their opponents,” LFL coach Chelsi Jackson said.
The Lady Doggers were led by junior Brenly Shipp with 12 kills, while sophomore Hallie Fuller added seven and Speckner six. Foster and Fuller both served up three aces, while Foster and sophomore Skyla Wunder had 13 points each.
The next night, the Lady Doggers traveled to Pine Bluffs for a road quadrant match against the Lady Hornets.
In the end, Pine Bluffs completed the regular season sweep handing Lingle a 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-20, 25-19) loss.
“This was a good game for the girls, but we just had too many ups and downs and were unable to come back when we got down by too many points,” Jackson said. “I think this was a great learning experience for the team as all of the girls came back from that game with a lot of feedback and what they are each individually going to do to ensure that we don’t get down in games like that.”
Speckner led the team with 23 kills, while sophomore Jordynn Speckner added 11. Wunder dished out 26 assists, while Foster had 16. Foster also had four aces.
The Lady Doggers (13-11 overall and 3-2 in the 2A Southeast Quadrant) wraps up the regular season at Burns (11-17-1 and 3-1) on Friday. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
