Lancers drop two

TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) Lancers fell in a pair of conference games over the weekend against Western Wyoming Community College (WWCC) and Casper College in games that essentially boiled down to another tale of two halves.

The first half of the game between the Lancers and the WWCC Mustangs on February 1 came down to the wire, with the halftime score favoring WWCC by a single possession, 42-40. Unfortunately, WWCC dominated the second half to progressively widen its lead to 23 points at the end of regulation, 95-72.

On Saturday, the Casper College Thunderbirds won the first quarter against EWC by a 49-36 margin. Rallying in the second half, the Lancers battled to close the gap and topped Casper in scoring, 54-52. The Lancers’ rebound came up short in bridging the deficit, however, and Casper prevailed, 101-90.

“At Western on Thursday, we were down by only two at halftime, but shot the ball poorly in the second half,” head coach Tom Andersen said. “At Casper, we were down 13 at half. We outscored Casper in the second half but came up short to a talented team.”

Stats

Micah Glover led EWC in scoring against WWCC with 24 points and Masaiah “M.J.” Binford contributed 15. Henos Fitwi posted eight rebounds and both Ryan Aye and Rodrigo Sanchez made four assists.

Five EWC athletes posted double digits against Casper – Binford with 19 points, Crosby 14, Khayree Rashed 13, Aye 11 and Makhiah Tarver 10.

Binford went double-double with 14 rebounds.
