Lancer men edged in high-scoring affair

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – Despite five Lancers scoring in double figures Saturday, the Eastern Wyoming College men were handed a 129-111 road loss against Western Nebraska Community College.

The Cougars started the game hot, rushing out to a 58-43 lead at the break. Both teams racked up the points in the second half, with the Lancers outscored by only three points, 71-68. The 111 points scored by EWC was the most that the Lancers have scored this season, while 129 points is the most they have allowed this winter.

Brandon Meadows, who came off the bench, led the Lancers with 29 points on 9-of-13 shooting. He also shot 9-for-12 from the charity stripe and paced EWC on the boards with nine rebounds, along with three assists.

Nick Holmes was second on the team in scoring, pouring in 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-8 from behind the arc. Holmes paced the Lancers in assists with seven, while adding three rebounds and a steal to his stat line.

Alek Cosic knocked down 3-of-4 from behind the arc on his way to recording 15 points, six rebounds and three assists. Walker Korell rounded out the Lancer starters in double-figures with 14 points on the night. The sophomore also finished with a rebound and two assists.

Rhythm Ajanku was the last Lancer to score more than 10 points, recording 13 in the loss on 4-of-4 shooting from the floor and 5-of-7 shooting from the free-throw line. On top of his 13 points, Ajanku tallied two boards and three assists.

Kolton Wall and Jonathan Morrobel contributed seven points apiece, while combining for five boards, two assists and a steal. Daniel Wright, Trey Schroefel and Bruno Oliveira rounded out the scoring, combining for nine points, a rebound and three assists.

The loss puts the Lancers at 1-9 on the season. They played on the road against Casper College on Tuesday after the press deadline. EWC hits the road this weekend to close out 2017, playing Central Wyoming College on Friday at 7 p.m. and Western Wyoming Community College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
