Lady Lancers post undefeated weekend

TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) Lady Lancers continued their winning streak against conference rivals, successfully defending the home court against both Central Wyoming College on February 9 and Northwest College on Saturday.

An epic first quarter against Central Wyoming College that saw the Lady Lancers outpace Central Wyoming, 28-12, to lay the foundation for EWC to triumph at the end of regulation, 83-51.

The Lady Lancers netted 19 points in the second quarter while a scrappy EWC defense held Central Wyoming to only five points.

The halftime score found the Lady Lancers up significantly, 47-17.

Central Wyoming rebounded in the third quarter to net 22 points to EWC’s 16, although the effort was too little, too late and the Lady Lancers prevailed in the final quarter, 20-12.

EWC dominated the first three quarters against Northwest College, with the momentum set by a 24-16 first quarter.

EWC found itself ahead, 41-31, at halftime. A solid Lady Lancer offense netted 19 points in the third quarter while a tenacious defense held Northwest to 11 points.

The Lady Lancers entered the fourth quarter ahead, 60-42, and remained in the lead through a close final 10 minutes of regulation to post its fourth conference victory against Northwest College, 79-67.

Freshmen Ali Tripp and Luna Moreno both led EWC in scoring against Central Wyoming College with 17 points apiece. Sophomore Hailey Long tallied 15 points with fellow sophomore Tamar Kopilevich contributing 11. 

Freshman Tawny Rodriguez dominated the boards against Central Wyoming, posting an exceptional 14 rebounds.

Five Lady Lancers scored double digits against Northwest College, led by Moreno with 15 points. Rodriguez netted 14 points, Tripp 12 with 10 each by Long and sophomore Sofia Mokofisi. Long went double-double with 11 rebounds. On defense, sophomore Andrea Gutierrez Ciordia rustled five steals.
