Lady Lancers pick up OT win at Northeastern

STERLING, Colo. – The Eastern Wyoming College women’s basketball team began the 2023 portion of the schedule on the right foot in an 84-75 overtime victory against Northeastern Junior College on Friday.

The game started with a flurry of action as the teams combined for 56 first-quarter points as NJC held a slim 30-26 lead.

The Lady Plainsmen extended the lead to six at 43-37 at halftime, but coming out in the third quarter, the Lady Lancers charged back.

They outscored NJC 18-8 to take a 55-51 lead into the final quarter.

Over the final 10 minutes, the Lady Plainsmen tied the game at the final buzzer, forcing an extra period.

In overtime, Eastern Wyoming outscored NJC 11-2 to pull away for the nine-point victory.

The win was the third of the season for the Lady Lancers and were led by freshman Ines Gnahore  with 31 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomores Neylan Vila Delicado and Amanda Sene da Cruz added 16 points each.

The Lady Lancers shot 39.7% (27-of-68) and tallied 11 steals in the win.

EWC is back in action this weekend at the Region IX Crossover Tournament at Western Nebraska Community College. They will face Lamar on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m., the Colorado Ballers on Friday, Jan. 13 at 3 p.m. and Northeastern Junior College at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14.
