Lady Lancers drop four in Colo.

RANGELY, Colo. – The Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers fell in four games at the Northeastern Colorado Tournament in Rangely over the weekend.

Western Wyoming 3, EWC 2

EWC fell in their first two sets of the weekend, with both set scores at 25-21. Down 2-1 against Western Wyoming Community College, The Lady Lancers battled back, winning the third set by a narrow margin (25-23) and the fourth set by a slightly wider margin (25-23). In the deciding fifth set, EWC fell 15-11.

At the net, Lissette Lefforge was a force to be reckoned with, racking up 14 kills and two blocks, both of which were team-highs. Dawson Sharman was second on the team in kills, with nine, followed closely by Kodi Edwards, who had seven. Shaniah Freeseman tied Lefforge in blocks, with two, while Edwards, Sharman and Katie Strohschein each added one.

Helena Khouri amassed 25 digs to lead EWC, with Jaysie Thomas kicking in another 14. Thomas also added an ace, with Lefforge adding one and Kylee Tresch leading the way with two. Tresch was second for the Lady Lancers in assists, with 20, only behind Alex Simmerman who had 24.

Colorado Northwestern 3, EWC 0

After forcing the first set to go to extra points (26-24), the Lady Lancers dropped the next two sets by wider margins (25-20, 25-13).

Sharman stepped up the pace the Lady Blazers in kills, with six, while Lefforge added another four. Both players, along with Freeseman and Edwards, chipped in a block apiece.

Simmerman led the way in digs, with 10, while added four set assists in the loss. Tresch was the team-leader in assists, with 10. Khouri again made a contribution on the back line, tallying seven digs.

Utah State University – Eastern 3, EWC 1

The Lady Lancers got things off on the right foot against Utah State University, winning the first set, 25-20. EWC went on to keep things close in the second set (25-21) and even forced extra points in the third set (29-27), but fell behind 2-1. The Lady Lancers failed to contend in the fourth set, falling 25-11.

Utah State struggled to his around the blocks of EWC, with Freeseman racking up five and Lefforge and Edwards each kicking in three. Lefforge added 11 kills to her stat line, while Sharman and Strohschein combined for 15.

Tresch and Simmerman split the assist duties, combining for 19 and 15, respectively. Tresch, along with Khouri, also had an ace. Khouri led the team in digs, with 18. Precious Williams kicked in eight and Simmerman added seven.

Colby 3, EWC 0

To close out the weekend, EWC struggled against Colby. The Lady Lancers dropped the first and third sets by a score of 25-21 and fell in the second set 25-19.

Thomas led the Lady Lancers in aces, with two, while Williams added one of her own. Williams (11) and Thomas (seven) helped out in the digs category, finishing first and third for EWC. Tresch was second for the Lady Lancers in digs, with eight. She also edged out Simmerman for the team-high in assists (16) by four.

Lefforge again had a solid game at the net, racking up eight kills. Edwards contributed seven kills of her own.

The Lady Lancers are still searching for their first win of the season, sitting at 0-12. In the region, EWC is 0-3. The Lady Lancers return to their home floor for the WyoBraska Tournament this weekend. EWC and Western Nebraska co-host the tournament.
