TORRINGTON – On Saturday March 27, The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) Women’s basketball team earned a conference victory against Western Wyoming Community College (WWCC) in dominating fashion.
The Lady Lancers cruised to a 75-48 victory over WWCC after outscoring The Lady Mustangs 38-17 in the second half.
Things got off to a slow start as neither team was able to do much scoring early in the first quarter. The difference in the first half was the EWC defense as the Lady Lancers were able to head into halftime with a 37-31 lead.
That strong defense by EWC carried over to the second half as the Lady Mustangs were able to muster 17 points in the second half and just seven points in the final quarter of play.
Three EWC players scored in double figures on the day. Sophomore forward Montse Gutierrez Ilbanez finished the game with 23 points, shooting 8-of-11 from the field including 5-of-7 from three-point range. Fellow sophomore’s Raleigh Basart and Jada Ybarra chipped in 11 and 10 points respectively. Sophomore Mariana Zanelatto Minotto chipped in eight points and secured a team high eight rebounds.
With the win, The Lady Lancers moved to 13-7 on the season and have eight wins in their last 10 games.
