Lady Cyclones push win streak to 11

BURNS – The Southeast High School volleyball team ran its win streak to 11 straight matches on Thursday evening in Burns.

The Class 1A No. 1-ranked Lady Cyclones defeated the Class 2A No. 2-ranked Lady Broncs, 3-1.

Southeast dropped the opening set 25-19 before bouncing back with 25-19, 25-10, 25-23 wins in the ensuing sets to score the road victory.

The win avenges Southeast’s first loss of the season back on Aug. 26 in which Burns defeated the Lady Cyclones 2-0 at the season-opening Douglas Invite.

Senior Sydney Anderson led the team with 14 kills and 18 digs, while senior Brenna Herring had 11 kills, 15 assists and three blocks. Junior Baylie Booth handed out a team-high 17 assists.

Southeast also served up seven aces, including three from senior Shelby Ekwall and two each from senior Kealy Carson and Anderson.

The Lady Cyclones finish up the regular season with three games in three days. The busy weekend begins at home on Thursday against Lingle-Fort Laramie at 6 p.m. on Thursday. On Friday, the team travels to Pine Bluffs at 5 p.m. before wrapping the weekend back up at home against Niobrara County at 1 p.m.
