LINGLE – The Lingle-Fort Laramie Lady Doggers used 10 aces to help them pick up the win in straight sets over Guernsey-Sunrise on Friday in Lingle.
In the first set, the Lady Doggers began piling on the points, recording a 25-11 win. The second set was the closest between the two teams, with L-FL still snagging the win 25-13. The Lady Doggers continued their hot play in the third, winning 25-9.
At the service line, Ashley Riley had a solid day, recording three aces. Amanda Riley, Paige Forkner and Jade Cooper each chipped in two, while Jordan Hunt added one. L-FL finished with a 90 percent serving percentage in the win.
Amanda Riley paced the Lady Doggers in kills, with 11. She finished with a 52 percent success rate on her kills. The senior also accounted for a block and nine digs. Ashley Riley was not far behind in the killing department, tallying seven, which she paired with a block and seven digs.
“This week was exciting because Ashley Riley was able to return to the court,” coach Barb Clark said. “She did a great job with some really strong serving and hitting. She was able to step right in and was a big help in our win over Guernsey.”
Jordyn Gaspers and Jordan Hunt were tied for third on the team in kills, with three apiece. They each also had eight digs.
Jade Cooper topped the stat sheet in digs, with 10, and assists, with all of L-FL’s 22. Her stat line was filled out with a block and two kills. Forkner also had two kills and three blocks.
Pine Bluffs 3, L-FL 1
The Lady Doggers upped their service percentage to 94 percent Saturday on the road against Pine Bluffs, but it was not enough, as L-FL fell in four.
Pine Bluffs secured a win in the opening set, 25-19. The Lady Doggers tightened up the score in the second, but fell again, 25-21, forcing a must-win situation. Winning is what the Lady Doggers did in the fourth set, 25-23, to stave off a loss, before the Lady Hornets closed the door with a win in the fourth set, 25-18.
“On Saturday, the girls played well for most of each game,” Clark said. “We probably didn’t pass as well as we have at other times, but played tough.”
Ashley Riley had a good game at serving, accounting for three aces for the second game in a row. She also had eight kills and was one of five Lady Doggers with double-digit digs. Amanda Riley recorded 12 kills against the Lady Hornets, which she paired with two blocks and 12 digs.
Hunt led the way in the dig department with 15 in the loss. She also had two kills and a block. Gaspers, who had three kills and a block, was another Lady Dogger who stepped up in the back line, with 11 digs.
For the second day in a row, Cooper had 22 assists. On Saturday, she upped her dig total to 13, while also accounting for three kills and a block.
With the dust settled after the weekend, L-FL sits at 14-8 on the season. The Lady Doggers return to the floor to take on cross-county rival Southeast in Yoder on Thursday. The varsity game is slated to start at 6:30 p.m. L-FL also closes out its regular season Saturday when they host Lusk at 3 p.m.
