EWC women split weekend

TRINIDAD, Colo. – The Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers had two games in Colorado over the weekend, losing to Otero Junior College Friday, 66-59, before bouncing back to beat Trinidad State Junior College Saturday, 82-55.

In the winning effort on Saturday, the Lady Lancers held Trinidad State to eight points in the first quarter, while scoring 26 of their own. By halftime, EWC was up 42-31 and they cruised in the second half, scoring 19 points in the third quarter and 21 in the fourth.
EWC had five players in double-figures. Anna Perez Gomez was the leading scorer, with 18 points. She hit 7-of-10 including a three-pointer and had a rebound, assist and tied for the team-high in steals, with three.

Carna Prokic also had three steals during the game and was second on EWC with 15 points. Emily Evans drained four three-pointers and had 14 points on the night to go along with seven rebounds and a team-high three assists. Jessica Rossi came off the bench to amass 11 points, while Sarah Bersang had 10. Rossi had eight rebounds, which was a team-high.
The Lady Lancers shot 50 percent from their field and 46.2 percent from behind the arc. Three different players for EWC had a three-pointer against Trinidad State.

OJC 66, EWC 59
On Friday against Otero, Prokic was the leading scorer for the Lady Lancers, with 13 points. She had four rebounds and led EWC in steals, with three.
Evans and Bersang rounded out the top-scorers for the Lady Lancers, with 11 points apiece. They combined to shoot 8-of-20 from the field and they added three points apiece at the free-throw line.
Pamela Bethel was EWC’s leading rebounder, with 14 boards to her credit. Seven of her rebounds came off the offensive glass. Gomez led the Lady Lancers in assists, with five, to go along with her nine points.
The Lady Lancers’ shooting percentage was 40.5 percent on Friday, but they went 3-of-16 from behind the arc. Prokic, Gomez and Sophie Claycomb were the only EWC players to nail a three-pointer. The Lady Lancers shot only 59.1 from the charity stripe.
The weekend’s contests put the Lady Lancers at 14-10 this season with a 7-5 record in the conference. They played Laramie County Community College at home on Tuesday after press deadline. EWC returns to the hardwood this weekend to take on North Platte Community College Friday at 5:30 p.m. and McCook Community College Saturday at 2 p.m. Both games will be played at home.
