Buchanan, Roure earn Region IX postseason awards

TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancer basketball team has completed the most successful season in the college’s history with 24 wins.

In addition to the 24-win season, last year’s season saw 21 wins for the best two-year total of 45 victories.

Sophomores Abril Rexach Roure and Emily Buchanan were named to the Region IX All-Tournament team. Roure was named to the Region IX North All-Region Team and Buchanan was named to the North All-Region IX Defensive team.

“We are very proud of what this team has accomplished this and last season. They are a focused group that have been fun to coach, and a very enjoyable team to watch,” said EWC Head Coach Tom Andersen. “EWC and the community can be very proud of these student athletes. We appreciate all the support they have been given.”

Roure, the Lleida, Spain native, averaged 12.5 points per game while dishing out 7.4 assists per game and grabbing 4.2 rebounds per game.

Buchanan, a Southeast High School graduate, led the team in scoring with 17.3 points per game and was second on the team in rebounding with 5.1 per game. Buchanan also averaged just under two steals per game.

The Lady Lancers saw their season come to a close in the semifinal round of the Region IX playoffs with a 91-65 loss to Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff, Neb.
