Blazers girls come up short against unbeaten Bulldogs

BRIDGEPORT, NEBRASKA – The Torrington High School Lady Blazers put in a solid effort against the Bridgeport Lady Bulldogs at an away game Tuesday, highlighted by Torrington outscoring the undefeated Bulldogs, 25-23, in the second half.

While Torrington made a significant dent in Bridgeport’s lead in the fourth quarter, the Lady Blazers still came up short at the end of regulation, 60-44.

Bridgeport established a 19-8 advantage in the first quarter. Junior Teryn Stokes kept Torrington on the scoreboard with four points, while sophomore Natalie Long netted a jumper and fellow sophomore Kennedy Reinhardt found an opening in Bridgeport’s perimeter to score.

Torrington tallied 11 points in the second quarter to 18 from the Lady Bulldogs. Reinhardt led the Lady Blazers’ offense with a deep outside shot and a jumper. Junior Jaycee Hurley made a layup and went 2-for-2 at the free-throw line. 

Bridgeport found itself ahead, 37-19, when the halftime buzzer sounded.

Torrington nearly matched Bridgeport in scoring over the course of a scrappy third quarter that saw the Lady Blazers net 11 points to 12 from the Lady Bulldogs. Reinhardt again set the pace for Torrington with six points. Junior Madix McIntosh tossed in a 3-pointer and Hurley sank a pair of free throws.

Digging deep, the Lady Blazers outscored Bridgeport in the fourth quarter, 14-11, and closed a 20-point deficit to 10 points. Junior Olive Osmera posted an outside shot and a jumper. Hurley once again went 2-for-2 at the charity stripe and contributed a close-range shot.

Sophomore Brooklyn McCoy entered the game and landed a 3-pointer.

Reinhardt led the Lady Blazers in scoring against Bridgeport, tallying 15 points. Hurley netted 10 points, including 6-for-6 at the free-throw line. Osmera tallied five points with four apiece by Long and Stokes.

The Lady Blazers host Douglas on Friday, with tipoff scheduled at 5:30 p.m.
