Blazer boys eighth, girls 11th at Best in the West

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – The Torrington Trailblazers boys track team had six top-eight places, while the girls had five at the Best in the West Classic in Scottsbluff on Tuesday.
The Blazer boys tallied up 30 team points off of the six top-eight finishes to finish eighth. Sidney, Neb. took the boys crown with 94 points. The Lady Blazers amassed 20 points to slide into the 11th slot. Gering, Neb. stood atop the podium with 88 team points. There were 21 boys and 24 girls teams that scored in at least one event in Scottsbluff.
Continuing his trend of the season, Logan Harris took the top spot in the shot put with a throw of 59 feet, 1 inch. His throw was more than seven feet further than the second-place finisher. In the discus, Harris dropped to the ninth slot, recording a throw of 113 feet, 5 inches.

On the track, Aaron Borger set a personal record in the 800-meter run, clocking a time of 2:06.02, earning him fourth. Bo Moorehouse took eighth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.61 seconds.
The relay team of Borger, Moorehouse, Tristan DeMott and Mondell Tolman captured third in the 1600-meter relay, turning in a time of 3:38.71. Frank Rand linked up with DeMott, Moorehouse and Tolman for the 400-meter relay, with the Blazer foursome taking fifth (46.08 seconds). In the 3200-meter relay, Borger, Cameron Juma, Josh Posten and Pake Haun turned in a time of 9:04.12, earning them the fifth spot.
The Lady Blazers picked up several of their team points in the field events. Logan Murphy took third in the long jump, clearing 15 feet, 10 inches. In the triple jump, Samantha Hill recorded a jump of 32 feet, 1.75 inches to finish sixth.
Shelbey Prusia tied Murphy for the best finish among the Torrington girls, earning the bronze in the 100-meter dash, clocking a time of 13.40 seconds. Murphy made her presence felt on the track as well, seizing sixth place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.90 seconds.
Murphy, Prusia and Hill joined Dantia Palmer for the 400-meter relay, where the Lady Blazers took seventh with a time of 54.25 seconds.
Torrington has a busy schedule for the weekend, competing in the Wyoming Track Classic at Kelly Walsh on Friday. The Blazers are also slated to compete in the Wyoming Invitational at Kelly Walsh on Saturday. After this weekend, Torrington only has the Wiseman Invitational on May 5 at home before heading to the regional and state meets.
