Lancers saddle up at Sheridan College Rodeo

SHERIDAN – The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) Lancer Rodeo Team traveled to Sheridan, Wyoming for the Pat Hamilton Memorial College Rodeo over the weekend with five Lancer athletes making it back to short-go on Sunday, September 29.

The Lancer women’s team placed fourth with 180 points while the EWC men’s team placed eighth with 35 points.

Griffin Grooms, a freshman from Oglala, South Dakota had another great weekend in barrel racing. In the long-go, Grooms won with a 17.52-second run. In the short-go, the freshman had a smokin’ run – shaving off two-tenths of a second with  17.34 seconds and 34.86 seconds on the two runs – to win the short-go by over two-tenths of a second. 

In the bulldogging, sophomore Wyatt Hajny had a 9.6-second run placing him ninth in the long-go. In the short-go, Hajny put down a 11.0-second run placing him sixth.

In the team roping, header Edgar Aguilar and heeler Colton Zimmerman had a great run in the long-go with a 9.2-second run placing them fourth. After having some tough luck in the short-go, the two Lancers ended up sixth in the average. 

Pate Tavegie from Newcastle, Wyoming had a good weekend in the team roping as well. In the first round the freshman and his partner Cam Johnson, from Gillette, had a 13.4-second run placing them eighth. They ended the weekend ninth in the average. 

It was a great weekend at the Pat Hamilton Memorial College Rodeo for the Lancers. The Lancers have a weekend off and then will be competing next in Cheyenne from October 11-13.
