Good, bad and exceptionally ugly surprises

My car was noisy with much chatter. My two buddies and I were headed to Lusk to help with Bible Adventure Days. When I have these guys around, there is never a dull moment and tonight was no exception. We had just gotten well on our journey when we topped a small hill on the highway, and there in the middle of the road was a doe antelope. She was laying down, square in the middle. As I slowed to slower than a crawl we were trying to figure out if she had a broken leg, if she had been hit by a car, or what in the world she was doing laying in a very dangerous spot. I came to a complete spot just a couple of feet from her and she jumped up, and as soon as she was on her feet, her water broke! She was going to give birth in the middle of the highway! For about ten seconds, my car was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop, but as the shock wore off at what we had just witnessed, the chatter started with a vengeance, accompanied by laughter! Who gets to see what we had just seen?

We have two friends that over the past year have received a diagnosis of MS. Having some trouble one day, seemingly big trouble the next. Both never saw it coming.

We arrived at the church a couple of weeks ago, just as Ty opened the church doors and we were welcomed by a swarm of plague proportions of millers (moths to some). The fog that they created as they exited the building was impressive! They took us completely by surprise!!!! The shock wave didn’t end there. We had to almost hit the floor as the birds had gotten the message that when the door opened first thing in the morning, lunch was served. They came swooping in for the kill! Never mind that we were standing there! I have never seen anything like it!!!

Three random stories, all containing the element of surprise. One still makes me laugh, one makes me cry, and the other I just shake my head and duck every time I walk in the door.

Countless times over my lifetime, I have been taken completely by surprise. Good, bad and exceptionally ugly surprises. One of the greatest things about my faith that I love is that I serve a God who is never surprised. He never wrings His hands wondering what in the world He is going to do. He never slumbers or sleeps. We don’t know what tomorrow holds, but He does. For our good and His glory He has a plan.

Psalm 121-3-8 - He will not let your foot slip - he who watches over you will not slumber; 4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The Lord watches over you - the Lord is your shade at your right hand; 6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord will keep you from all harm - he will watch over your life; 8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
