Aj's soda changing ownership

TORRINGTON – In a recent Facebook Live video, Aj’s Soda Shop’s owner, Jaclyn Miller, announced the local coffee and drink shop will be changing hands effective July 1.

“Good afternoon, I just wanted to go live this afternoon because there are lots of rumors going around town and I just want to clarify some of those rumors and make sure that everybody kind of hears it from me,” Miller said in a recent Facebook Live video. “I just wanted to let everybody know as of yesterday (May 31), my family is going to be moving to Phoenix. We are planning on selling Aj’s.”

According to Miller, after her home was listed for sale, many people in the community reached out to her about the local coffee shop.

“Aj’s has been a staple in the community for seven and a half years and I really wanted to find somebody who would be keeping it going and kind of doing what it has been doing this whole time,” Miller explained.

“The plan is, I will finish out the month of June as the owner of Aj’s and then John and Tracy Pannuzio will be taking over Aj’s Soda Shop,” Miller explained.

“John and Tracy have lived in Torrington for 10 years. They relocated after John retired from law enforcement after nearly 30 years of service. Tracy is a mental health therapist in Wyoming and Nebraska. Together they have five daughters and 12 grandchildren. They are dedicated to the community of Torrington and look forward to continuing business as usual for the Aj’s customers,” Miller explained in a recent Facebook post.

Miller explained the new owners have the intention to keep Aj’s Soda Shop employees and drink menu.

“I am really excited for them. Their plan is to keep everything the same as you know and love it right now. Same drinks. I am sure they will create new specials and do other amazing things, but the plan is for them to keep the staff on and keep the drinks the same. It should be, we’re hoping, just a smooth transition.”

Attempts to reach the Pannuzios before print time were unsuccessful.

“Great news, Aj’s is staying even though my family will be moving so you will still be able to get your favorite drink in the morning and you will be able to see the same smiling girls in the window,” Miller said. “We have loved being a part of this community for as long as we have. We’re so grateful that Aj’s has been as successful as it has been, and we are very excited for John and Tracy to see where they take things.”

Miller explained the final details are still in the works.
